new york city vegetarian restaurants Dao Palate
Dao Palate
329 Flatbush Ave., 718-638-1995, Prospect Heights, Brooklyn
Dao Palate is on a highly trafficked Brooklyn street, but once you're inside, the harried world feels far away. Buddha statues overlook a serene, dark wood-detailed dining room suffused with soothing, spa-like music. The Pan-Asian vegan menu is budget-priced, especially when it comes to $7 and $8 lunch specials (like spicy curry stew topped with fried basil leaves, stir-fried soba noodles), which include miso soup, spring roll and brown rice.
Yam and taro tempura, tofu teriyaki and scallion pancakes with mango salsa are other appealing items. Ingredients come from local sources whenever possible and service is polite, making it a feel-good prospect all around.
