Wild Ginger
380 Broome St., 212-966-1883, Little Italy, Manhattan
This Pan-Asian sanctuary is a laid-back hangout with a thatched roof over the bar and a crowd that's a mixture of health-oriented rockers and yoga devotees who come to dinner with rolled-up mats strapped to their backs. Candlelight illumines their young, bright faces and dances off brick walls furnished with Asian artifacts. Portions are abundant and can be shared, and include dishes such as pan-fried vegetable dumplings that look like swollen pea pods and moo shu vegetables with multiple pancakes and hoisin sauce. The beer and wine list is inexpensive, with a glass of house white starting at just $5.50.
