New York City Steak Hauses - The Post House
The Post House
28 E. 63rd St., 212-935-2888, Upper East Side, Manhattan
Frozen in time, the endearing Post House doesn't have to try to be retro. It's the real thing, with a cast of Upper East Side characters who live within a six-block radius. The art-filled bar and dining room display works by Cy Twombly and Christo, and it's as quiet as a museum. Much of the menu looks as if it hasn't changed since The Post House opened in 1980, with delightful throwbacks like oysters Rockefeller, tableside Caesar salad and surf and turf. The steaks, especially the spicy Cajun rib steak, are still relevant in our book. The signature sliced steak with button mushrooms is another classic. And who doesn't like NYC Restaurant Week prices at lunch year-round?
