The three passionate people behind this new Brooklyn Heights restaurant exercised an innovative plan to fund its construction—a pledge drive through Kickstarter, offering incentives like a cheese plate for two or a dozen East Coast oysters and a bottle of bubbly, depending on the size of the donation. Friends, family and locals responded and are now cashing in at the cool, handsome space, where they can gather at the welcoming bar or around the communal table in back. Owners Emelie Kihlstrom, Tamer Hamawi and Elise Rosenberg met at Public and were further schooled in the hospitality game at Double Crown. At Colonie, they and their chef, Alex Sorenson (formerly at Mas), are concentrating on local products, including Riesling from the Finger Lakes on tap. On the brief, seasonal American menu is a shredded kale salad with kohlrabi and cherries, wild mushroom crostini, and trout with sunchokes and bacon.
